Why?

In so many developing countries throughout Africa women

and girls have no voice. Some have never had the
opportunity or means to articulate their voice – which could
potentially protect them against the injustices they suffer as
a result of unending conflict and the cycle of oppression that
they are subjected to daily. Women and girls have been used
as weapons of war with no weapon of their own. We believe
that education and the ability to express oneself through arts
are the most important weapons a person can have in
life, especially for women and girls in developing nations.
Formal education and expression through the arts gives
women the opportunity to become self reliant, deal with
their oppression and have the self confidence to achieve their
goals. We do not intend to try to “save Africa”. We know
that the women we work with have the insight and ideas to
create solutions to overcome the adversity they face. We
intend to support them.
